Founder and President; Illustrator, manga artist, animator
Lisa started as a freelance illustrator for the cover of science fiction and fantasy novels and comic strips. She started WHAT?! Productions to publish her own manga (Japanese comics) and graphic novels of classic novels (novels that are no longer under copyright). Her excellent panel layouts led to help requests from authors and other artists. At some point, she began animating some of her works and didn't have enough time to take on new projects.
Maria was invited to join WHAT?! Productions when Lisa couldn't work on her own projects and fulfill WHAT?! projects at the same time. Maria's skills from technical writing, especially her familiarity with the Adobe creative suite, were easily transferred to manga layouts and desktop publishing. She expanded WHAT?! Productions's portfolio to include website design, especially since desktop publishing software evolved to have automatic export functions and tweaking the exports resulted in personalized results. In the early days, she was able to help artists animate their work through such programs as Adobe Flash.
Working at WHAT?! Productions gave her the confidence to write and market her own fantasy novels. She also joined in the creating of stop-motion animations of Bears for WHAT?! Recipes and associated cookbooks.
Amparo was jaded by the normal corporate rat race and decided to try her hand at something completely different. She has always been interested in manga and anime but her interest grew when comics (DC/Marvel) became more mainstream.
She began as a website designer and updated customer sites for those who chose not to take over maintenance of their own site. When WHAT?! Recipes started, she jumped on a new outlet to express herself. Her familiarity with Chinese food helped her storyboard and animate cooking scenes with Dr. Livingston Bear.
